My boyfriends birthday is today but we're celebrating this weekend. I want to make him a cake with a trout on it (he's a fly-fisherman). I was thinking of using color flow to make the trout but I'm not sure how I can since there seems to be so much shading involved. I'm not sure enough of myself to do a sculpted cake. I could just paint one on fondant but I want something that he'll really ooh and ahh over you know? Any ideas?
Yeah I'd probably go the FBCT route, or maybe a chocolate transfer instead.

I think you just answered my question and you must be psychic because you answered my question I was getting ready to ask y'all! I'm going to go with the chocolate transfer. Thanks!! ![]()
My DH is a flyfisherman too! I just did his B-day cake. It is a FBCT of a brook trout. I can post it if your interested.

I would love to see it!
That's so cool! All of your cakes are beautiful! I'm going to do a rainbow trout I think. This'll be my first chocolate transfer. Wish me luck!!
Thanks! I am sure with DH addiction I will be doing a rainbow trout soon too! I will keep an eye out for yours! Good luck and if you think of it post back here when your done. ![]()
My trout turned out way better than I ever imagined it would and the CT was 100 times easier than I thought it would be. I'm very happy with the way the trout turned out and will definitely use this method again. The picture is in my pics file. As for the rest of the cake....see my post in the cake disasters section.
