I need a cross for the top of a cake. I am wondering if I can use one of those $2 plastic molds for the candy melts. Do I need to spray it with Pam or something? I understand it can't be used for choc after doing this. Any tips/ideas? TIA!

Not sure I understand what are you putting in the mold.

Yes, you can use any plastic chocolate mold and you don't need to spray with Pam..just make sure it is well set and cold, like put it in the freezer for about 10 mins., and when it comes out, it should just slide out or pop out easily when you turn it upside down. icon_smile.gif

why can't you use it for chocolate? are you planning on using candy melts? Those essentially are chocolate, I believe. I think I am just confused.

I am not sure what kind of mold you are talking about. The plastic molds are for chocolates. Candy melts are the same thing. Melt them in your microwave for 20 second intervals, stir, & keep doing til melted. Do not put anything into the mold to prepare it. Just pour the choc. in & you place it in the freezer to mold.

Duh, I wasn't being clear, sorry. icon_redface.gif What I want to use it for is either fondant or gumpaste, maybe a mix of both.

yes...the molds will work...dust w/ powdered sugar for fondant. I have several molds for fondant made from the same plastic as the ones for chocolate...can do fondant or chocolate interchangeably. Just push in, trim off excess and them pop out (may require a rap of table/counter top)

not sure if it's powedered sugar or cornstarch for gumpaste. anyone else know??

I use cornstarch. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use the mold again. I reuse and wash my chocolate molds all the time. Just make sure they are washed and rinsed well and thoroughly dried.

Thank you all! I thought if you used a choc mold for something else the choc wouldn't come out shiny anymore. Good to know I can use it for anything. Thanks again. icon_smile.gif
