Ladies,

I have been decorating cakes for more years than I care to remember, and from seeing all your beautiful work here you have inspired me to try my hand at sculpting, using fondant. I downloaded Larraine McKays tutorial and she speaks of purchasing good quality modeling paste. My question to you is do you buy your fondant (if so where?) or do you make your own?

I buy Fondx or SatinIce fondant. For Fondx, I get it online thru http://www.cakedeco.com and SatinIce I get locally at a cake decorating store.

I do both....buy some and make some.
I just went in on a case of Satinice with a friend...I like to buy the hard-to-achieve colors....red, black, etc...then make my own MMF.

I did just get some FondX samples in the mail and really like a couple of them....so I can see me purchasing a couple tubs of that stuff in the near future. thumbs_up.gif

I make my own - so much cheaper....plus I can make many batches and keep in the refrigerator for months, or even the freezer for up to a year... Purchasing is not always an option for us here in the Caribbean. The supply is unpredictable....

I tried to make mmf today and it was a disaster! I don't know what I did wrong but I sure do know it didn't come out usable .. I will try again tomorrow I suppose ....

I purchase mine through http://www.decopac.com/. It is Satin Ice distributed through DecoPac (at least that is what one tub says). $13 for a 5lb. tub. HTH
