hi all. i donated a christmas cake (stocking in pics) to a nursing home where both my sister and daughter work. the matron has asked if i will be willing to donate one for their summer fair for guess the weight to raise money for the home. i am more than willing but as there is no theme for the fair am stuck for ideas. the fair is only for the residents and their family and friends so not the kind with rides etc just stalls. i need something summery. it's going to be an 8 inch round or square marzipan and fondant cake. i was thinking brushed icing flowers but i want something people will want to look at twice and guess the weight of twice just coz they like looking at it don't care if its funny pretty or what.

I was thinking a basket cake with a handle and one side of the lid propped up with flowers falling out?
To make it a little more fun make sure you put some good filling in there for the guess the weight =) The filling always adds a lot more weight than I am prepared to lift =)
Maybe because I just watched Mike do his thing on the Villian cakes, but I was thinking of something like a little boy fishing in a barrel or something. Make him look like Huck Finn with the blue jeans and hat. You could make him out of modeling chocolate and then do the barrel out of cake and fondant. That would not only blow their minds but they wouldnt be able to guess the weight!
Picinic basket would be cute - so would a grocer's scale (like in the old days) with some fondant fruit in it?
I liked the basket of fruit idea...
