get them to stay upright while your working on them.

I attempted my first one yesterday and it kept wanting to sag or fall over.

What do you use too to attach all the different pieces? I used a brush and water what would sometimes get a sticky mess, there's got to be something easier that I don't know about right???

I am trying to make people figures. I dumped the first one, so far the 2nd one is working but I did use a toothpick to try to stabalize it and attach the head since I needed the head to appear slumped over

I used spaghetti on the figures I just did to attach the torso and the head. I did them in stages but rushed thru some - ran out of time. first time doing figures.

I use either toothpicks or spaghetti and I also use sugar glue made with powdered sugar and water.

You can also make a glue using gum arabic, tylose and warm water.

You can also use a wadded up piece of aluminum foil inside the figure. This will allow you to use thinner fondant/gumpaste to cover and dry faster as a result.

What I want to know is how do you make the hands and faces so realistic. The darn things are so small, I can seem to make it work!! I made my first ones this week. The hands were deformed! I guess that was okay since the men were on an army tank... I could always say that they hit some bombs! Yeah, that's it... they were exposed to radition in Iraq!!! icon_smile.gif

Seriously, how do you make the hands and face???

I purchased aine2's tutorials for the lady and was able to pick up a lot of great tips. I would have probably turned out better with the proper tools but. It covers that particular figure in detail. Illustrates how to do all pieces from the face, hand and feet. She has a free face tutorial on her web too.

I just bought the tutorial and I can't believe how detailed it was! I am going to make one tomorrow.

Thanks for the link. I will post pics when I am done.

Also, it was only $11 and change, which I think is a SMALL price to pay for such a wealth of knowledge.

I am so glad that I found this post! I have been hestitating about starting to mold figurines. I've never done it before and see what a great job everyone does but am afraid to attempt it. May have to bite the bullet and set some time aside and try it.
