You've got two choices - one is to use a beadmaker mould to get astring of beads, they don't look good though as they have a ridge, they're ok if you're desperate and short on time. The other option is to make them by hand which is time consuming, but gets lovely effects. Basically I roll a sausage of fondant and cut it into equal bits so I get them the same size. Then I roll them in my hands - with practce I'm able to roll one in each hand using my fingers. Then drop the pearls into a dish of lustre dust and wiggle the dish so that the pearls get coated- then leave to dry.

If these pearls are for a cake border, I use these molds from Country Kitchens: http://www.countrykitchensa.com/catalog/Searchresults.aspx?Description=bead+maker&search.x=0&search.y=0
There maybe some extra pieces of fondant between the pearls after you mold them but they can be easily removed with tweezers.
I use Earlene's method of punching out a uniform snake of discs using the largest plain round tip. It actually goes pretty fast and then you just start rolling the discs into balls. I made several hundred of them the first time I did them and still have silver, gold and pearl ones left. It's nice to have them around for inspiration.
I use a mold to get fondant pearls....I've never had a problem...I got mines from Country Kitchens I believe...well I know it's made by CK.
There is also a tool made for polymer clay that marks different increments on your snake of fondant. I believe it's made by Donna Kato (famous polymer clay artist).
