Smoothing With Viva

I'm new to this so I will show my ignorance. I keep seeing smoothing with Viva/parchment paper, etc. Do you lay the paper towel on the cake, keep it in place and smooth with your hand or fondant smoother without moving the papertowel? do the same on sides? When I saw smooth with paper towel, I actually tried a buffing action moving the paper towel all around. I made hills and valleys. Help anyone! Thanks in advance!

Yes.. The paper stays in place as you smooth with your hands or a fondant smoother. Be very careful to not shift the paper when you lift it otherwise you'll have to do that area again.

It may take you a few times to get it right, but just keep trying. It works wonders!!

Thanks so much everyone. I knew I was doing it wrong. It hit me in the middle of the night.....you big dummy use the smoother not the paper towel. How funny!
