Hi,
I have never used luster dust before but have been experimenting I have dry brushed it, mixed it with water, and mixed it with vodka, but no matter what I do It doesn't do anything but make the color darker. However if I let it dry in the dish I mix it in it looks metallic what am I doing wrong?

I seems to me you might not be mixing enough LD with your liquid. I never use water, I use only vodka or lemon extract (it dries even faster than vodka). When my piece is dry I sometimes go over and apply a 2nd coat. I hope this helps.

What type of look are you going for? I am wondering if you are using the wrong item for what you are trying to achieve

Luster dust gives a shine or metalic look.
There is a petal dust that gives more of a flat color
And pearl dust gives a shine but also lets the color of fondant come through.

I tried to use gold luster dust on the edges of a bible cake but it turned out looking more yellow than anything.

There are different types of luster dust gold, there is an antique gold I think that is what it is called and may be more suitable to your cake. Another thing you could try is to add it with vodka till it is as thick as cream or even a little thicker, paint your cake, then let it dry, and brush with dry luster dust. That should give you the colour and the shine. HTH icon_smile.gif
