I have just gotten into cake decorating and am thinking about purchasing some of the magic pans that are on here.
I currently have (2) 9"x2" Calphalon pans, (3) Calphalon bread pans, (1) Calphalon 9"x16"x2" pan, (all were wedding gifts) the (2) small oval pans that come in the Wilton Class kit 2, (1) Wilton Lamb pan, and (2) 6"x2" Wilton pans.
Right now, I'm just learning and doing a lot of practicing- for friends and family. I am thinking about selling some cakes in the future.
My question is, what size pans would be the best to invest in, if I was to get 2 sets of 2? I thought the 8"x3" would be good since when I use the 9" even with the extender it doesn't come out too high. What do you use the most?
Thank you for your help! icon_smile.gif

I bought 3" Magic Line squares and a bunch of people say 2" is better. Cooks better and a 6"+ cake looks tall.....and a 3" looks short....
When I buy my Magic Line rounds I will get 2" - I will buy 2 of the 8" and then 1 each of the rest.
But MAgic Line is great!

it's a matter of preference.. but I get the two inch, they do cook better. the 6inch rounds are good to get as well as the 8inch round . I also have the magic line 8x12x2 and found that i use that all of the time. it holds one mix plus the extender perfectly.

hope this helps

I have alot of 3 inch. I've never had a problem
with them. 2 is good though. Couple of
rounds and squares should help out till you
start decorating more, than you will know what
you need.

I use my 12inch round pans the most think there an inch and half. There great their big enough to cut to differnt shapes. I also have 2 oblong 12inch which are roasting tray but work really well too.

I have one each or 8, 9 and 10 3inch square
a 6, 8, 10 3inch round of both i use the 8 inch most of. That were my nans.

But i would also wait and see what people want as you go along you can always buy what you need. I also hire mine from the local cake shop.

hope this helps

Most popular for me...

9x13 sheet
11x15 sheet (I think)
6,8,10 and 12x2 rounds
8, 10"x2" square

These are the most common I think. If you're going to do wedding cakes, then I think some of the shaped pans would be of interest. Hexagon, Hearts..etc...
