Well, we go turned down for a wedding cake order today because thelady said our cake was to dry and she found someone else. Boy, I was crushed and just about said forget it until about a couple hours later a lady called that had been to a baby shower over the weekend where we made the cake and the lady said she thought the cake was beautiful (baby shower cake in photos) and said the animals were awesome and our cake tasted so delicious she wanted to order one for her husbands birthday. Just goes to show you everyone is different and I need to get a thicker skin. I had to share my up and down day with yal .
That's a tough one- interesting how when there's a down there is always an up ![]()
Do keep in mind that everyone's taste are different (for anything they are buying). It helps to build a thick skin to keep that in mind. (that's not addressing the people who are rude or whatever). The Dora cake I made on Saturday I was (as with all my cakes because my idea of sweet is way different than anyone else I know lol) worried it would be too sweet- and since I'm stilll learning technique and recipes I always ask everyone honestly what they thought of it, too sweet, not sweetw enough, too dry, blablabla, and well I got a lot of varied feedback, everything from way too sweet, to just right, and other comments. So as upsetting as it is to lose a gig, just remember (as happened to you today) someone else will come along who will feel differently and ask for your services.
Hang in there!
Thank you all for your comments. You all made it seem not so bad getting that bad comment from a customer. Thank you.
that's right!
My mother-in-law is one person who I can't please! She'll always find something she doesn't like about my cakes. ...at least she doesn't complain about it being too sweet anymore!
augh! She drives me crazy! I can't understand how she can say that a cake is waaaaaay to sweet when her 91 year old mother thinks that the same cake is the only "JUST-RIGHT" tasting cake that she's had in a while!
My guess would be that with your wedding cake order, the customer was just giving you an excuse. My MIL is the queen of returning things or changing orders and ALWAYS gives a fake reason for doing so. So don't be too sad! =)
Yeah I think that the lady was probably giving a excuse because she didn't want to pay that much since she keep saying another lady was only charging 275 for one cake and she asked me about another cake and I said 287 for everything including gumpaste flowers. I made 2 cakes out of the same batter and took it to 2 ladies that day. She however didn't like hers and the other one did and placed the order. So I'm not real sure. It just got me all upset thinking maybe I shouldn't be doing this after all. But after talking with you all and my husband and partner I guess it was her loss. Thanks everyone.
