I've seen the lace impression mats on Earlene's website, but not sure how to use them or how well they work. Any tips/ideas/success stories/dos & don'ts???

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks! icon_smile.gif

These come in 2 kinds, the white and blue silicone ones like these ones from Sunflower Sugar Art: http://www.globalsugarart.com/cat.php?cid=719
and Country Kitchens: http://www.countrykitchensa.com/catalog/Searchresults.aspx?Description=silicone+lace+mold&search.x=0&search.y=0

and the white foam like molds from Elegant Lace Molds: http://elegantlacemolds.com/molds.php?type=2&set=0

I've used both and equally like using them, as long as the mold has a deep, pronounced design.

There are 1-piece and 2-piece molds. On these, I prefer using the 2-piece molds that self-cut the lace (and emboss on both sides) as they make the work faster than if I had to cut manually around.

To mold the pieces, I roll fondant, dust the fondant and the mold with cornstarch, lay the fondant piece on the mold and emboss.

After embossing and cutting, I let the fondant piece crust for a few minutes before applying to the cake. This prevents distortion of the design. Just use a little water on the back of the lace to adhere to the cake.

Miriel - Thank you!! I saw the ones on Earlene's website, and was curiously interested, but not having used any yet, wanted to get some different perspectives first.

Thanks!!!

I have a couple of the foam ones that you have to cut around...their kind of a pain but they sure make a gorgeous design thumbs_up.gif
...and ya dont have to dust them, the fondant does not stick....
