I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but how exactally are you using the stencils? Holding them up to the cake and putting the icing on top, and pulling it off? Doesnt it leave icing trails? or are you somehow doing it not on the cake...I'm sorry! I think this technique is beautiful and would LOVE to try it, some advice please!!! Thank you!
It was on the food channel "Cake challenge" special. They might show it on there web site. Hope this helps ![]()
It was that Pink and Black cake.. The Asian lady was doing a stencil on the pink cake to cover up some imperfections..she used white royal icing. It was beautiful and looked so easy to do. I guess that's a quick way of covering areas that have some cracks or any imperfections. They won second place. ![]()
I did mine with royal and it worked great. I just got one from walmart. I was pretty proud of myself for thinking it up... then I see it was on a show two days later.
What show was it on??
OK I get it she did the technique and then saw it on The celebration cake show!! Sory been a long day!
I was at ICES convention this past weekend and was in Margaret Fords demo and they have "stay put stencils" which are sticky and will stay in place. They have them at her website www.celcrafts.co.uk. CK Products may also carry them. These looked so simple to use and I bought one at the show. You can also mix a paste of luster dust and just a little bit of crisco to "stencil" them on the side of the cake. Hope this helps.
Yep... I taught her everything she knows ![]()
I wish!!!!!!That cake was beautiful wan't it.
It was a cool cake - I loved the color combo. But your's ranks right up there too - just add a few more layers and cry a lot! But then again, I guess it was a very stressful 8 hours.
So, could you teach ME everything you know (or do I have to peer through your window too??haha. Could you plese wear a bath robe next week..I'm heading your way....lol
btw...I love your cakes. I recently saved your fish/tackle box cake in my fav's album. My step-brother is getting married in a few months and I am doing a grooms cake - your cake is right up his alley.
Here's one source, but I'm sure there's more on the internet:

I didn't know if anyone would be interested but here is the website for the woman in pink that used the stencil. She has some really cool cakes.

first saw this technique of raised stencil design NOT on cakes but on walls...
that's right..walls....
stencil gets hit with drywall spackle (sort of like our royal icing).
always thought it migh work on cakes too...and now have proof. YEAH!!! yet another way to make cakes "beautimous"
could someone describe the technique in a little more detail? ie: do you need to get a light weight stencil? do your wrap it around and secure it in place or do you need to hold it the whole time? How exactly do you apply the royal icing? with finger/brush? do you pull the stencil off when the royal is wet or let it dry first?
Pecockplace and pennysue: those cakes are awesome!
I'm worndering if you could use quilt stencil sheets as well. They are pink mylar and Joann's or Michaels sell them.
We've been talking about this on another thread. There are some good suggestions from others on this. Hope it helps.

Do you know who sells those cake stencils that go AROUND the sides of the cake, not the one for the top..am not interested in those round ones that go on the top.
I am looking for the ones w/ tiny designs and go on the sides. I looked in the internet, but all I see are the round ones..
thank in advance.. Keep cool, it' was

I've been following this thread and finally tried my stencils today. I got them at Walmart and they were inspirational type words..love, believe, imagine, joy..that sort of thing.
Its a fun technique and I could see using it alot! It is definitely better not to put the royal on too thick. Try to scrape alot of it off before removing stencil.
