Okay, I made the chocolate mmf from the recipe section. Loved the flavor (like a tootsie roll), but when I tried to use it, it was very dry and tore constantly. I couldn't get it to make a flat surface against the cake. I was finally so frustrated that I just covered the thing with pink strips. It is in my photos. Fortunately this cake was practice, so I won't have to refund any money! I couldn't sell a crappy cake like this.

What did I do wrong. When I tried to add water like the recipe said, it was just a gooey mess. HELP!!! PPPLLLLEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEE!!

Usually if mine is too dry, first I try working a little more crisco into the fondant. Usually this works. However, In my experience when it doesn't work it usually has something to do with the weather/humidity. When that's the case I usually just toss it and start all over again. Or else maybe there is too much PS? Those are usually the problems that I run into. HTH!

You can definitely try the shortening. it will bring it together. However sometimes it will alter the texture making it a little to fluid, or stretchy. You should, as with everything, start with a little and keep adding til you have just enough. This might help avoid the too stretchy to move problem.
