I have seen several cakes on tv that look like wood (ex around a basket or pieces of wood for a tool cake). The show on tv said you could buy a tool at the hardware store, dab on some coloring then go over your choc and get a wood pattern. Does anyone know what this tool is called, what it looks like, or where it would be found?

I think it is called a wood grain tool. I saw them use it on Trading Spaces one time. I found a website with some examples on it -

The one I saw them use was towards the bottom, the graining rockers. I hope this helps. icon_smile.gif

YES! Thank you!!! That graining rocker in the bottom right corner is what I saw them use. You are a life saver icon_lol.gif

Another idea if I may:
I use tip 47 to achieve a simple wood effect with buttercream...I also streak my bag with two shades of brown and drag a toothpick thru here and there with some added color for a more woodsy effect...pretty simple.
Here are two examples:

The graining rocker is an awesome tool.I used it on my boys room, to look like barnwood, it was very simple to do.

I haven't thought to try it on a cake, who knew you could. icon_surprised.gif
