I just baked a mix cake in the Easter Egg pan. Baked at 350 until I absolutely HAD to take it out cause it was getting too brown. The top of it however was still battery. Really gooey. What did I do wrong? Or is there a trick to baking in this pan? Any experience or help would be SO appreciated. I have to get this right in two weeks. I am doing these"egg" shapes as the body of a caterpillar for my niece's first b-day! I couldn't find any instructions on what temp to bake at, but I am guessing that might have been my problem. I just assumed 350, but maybe should have gone with 325. Help me out please!

TIA

I've done it, but sorry I don't remember. based on your description, I would assume the same thing--325. good luck

Well, another thing is that it is supposed to be a one mix pan. But it didn't even fill the pan at all even once it was baked and had risen! it was like way down in there like I didn't put enough batter in. Don' t know if next time I should use a mix and a half or what. What do you all think about that? Then, if I do, there is the question of will it be gooey inside? icon_confused.gif

I have used the egg pan several times for eggs and a whole watermelon design. I usually only add one cake mix but you are right, it doesnt fill all the way to top even when cooked. Make sure you are using a dense mix like the yellow or white or Ive also used strawberry. All the ball and pan cakes that I have done choc have not cooked well thru the center. I cook at 325 but for longer (usually about 35-40 minutes). I know this isnt a lot of new info but I hope it helps. Let me know what you find out!

I'm interested to know too.

I recently bought my egg pan off ebay but it didn't have instructions. I pulled them off wilton's site and it looks like they just use the instructions that they use for all the other 3d pans. They say to bake at 350 using 6 cups of batter for 50-60 minutes "until toothpick inserted in vent hole on top of pan comes out clean". My pan doesn't have a vent hole in the top and the two halves certainly won't snap together to bake as one piece. Mine came with two stand rings like the ball pan. So does that mean the instructions on the Wilton site are wrong?

The only 3D pan I have ever used was the ball pan and I only baked up half sides to use for a caterpillar cake and even then I had a heck of a time getting the cakes to bake in the middle.

Has anyone been able to get more info on how to bake in the egg pan?

Thanks!

I have used the 3-d egg pan that you have, and didn't have any problems. I do remember the edges being a bit too crusty, I think I sawed them off with a knife.

I made them into 2 small cakes though, I didn't need to put them together.

I usually bake at 325. Try that (if you haven't already).

Ok... I might have caught on to something... I didn't preheat the oven this time and set it on 275. It was more uniform throughout, but still a little too moist on the inside. I don't know how to get around this. If anyone knows what the trick is to this pan.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!

350 should be correct temp. also how full did you fill the pans. directions say to only fill 1/2 full and bake 25-30 minutes

If I understand correctly, you are NOT using the 3D snap-together egg pan, but you are baking in the big half egg. Unless someone else suggested it, and I missed it, I think you might try baking it using the flower nails in the bottom. They work for so many other situations, why not this. Also, imo, you should not set your oven temp any lower than 325F, after preheating.
