I'm new to the dishwasher genre icon_smile.gif and have only had a dishwasher for 2 months now. For the first time this weekend, I put one of my pans in the dishwasher because I was feeling lazy. When I pulled it out, it was all "faded" like someone scrubbed it with a scouring powder. Should I have not put it in the dishwasher? Did I ruin my pan?

Thanks,
Dia

I had the same thing happen to me. I don't put my pans in the dishwasher anymore. I have not been able to get that shiny new look back for my pans. It did not hurt the pans just the look. LouAnn

I agree with annlou. It will still work as before for baking, but just isn't pretty anymore. BOO HOO!!! I like my shiny pans.

Whew!! Thanks!! I'm not so worried about how it looks (although it looks funny) but was more worried about having to buy another pan!!

I wonder why this happens.

OXIDATION....aluminum's version of rust on iron.

and given time, even those shiny new pans that are hand washed will get it -- will just take lots longer

the chemicals and high heat of dishwasher speed up the process.

Yeah......I never put any of my "good" stuff in the dishwasher. That includes anything that has to do with cakes! Always handwash. I have ruined too many things in the dishwasher! thumbsdown.gif

I used to toss them out too, before I came to CC and asked. Doug was one of the ones who told me about the discoloration. Isn't he sweet?

I don't have time for all that hand washing! Dishwash the heck out of them! If they get too bad, buy paper liners!! I've been dishwashing them for years with no harm done. Most bakeries use those old steel pans that are black from years of abuse. They work just as well... I love them!
