Does anyone know how to make Silver Icing, or is it even possible (without looking too gray)?

I'm going to make a 25th Anniversary cake next weekend, but they would like white fondant hearts on it. We just didn't want to end up with a lot of white on white. Any suggestions? Thank you for your time and expertise. I love this website.

If you can use fondant for the silver parts then I would use "Nu Silver" luster dust mixed with alcohol or extract and painted over white fondant. It is a really pretty silver. I used it for the cake in my avatar along with some other icing colors and luster dusts.

how about white icing and silver hearts? You could paint the hearts with "silver" luster dust. This way, you'd avoid that "grey" icing colour. Good luck with the cake and make sure you post pictures icon_smile.gif

Awesome! I knew you guys were great and would have a solution to this. I will give that a shot. Do you know which brand sells the Nu-Silver you've tried? That sounds perfect! Thanks a bunch!

So is it okay to eat the silver? I know some say for decoration only.

If the only thing you are buying is one container of luster dust, you may want to check out www.cakeart.us. I noticed the shipping charge @ country kitchens, even if you only bought that one container, is $7!!

Shipping at cakeart is only around 2 bucks, a bargain compared to most sites. I hate it when they charge an outrageous minimum shipping charge for a tiny item.

Good luck!

Thank you for both of the websites and all the helpful tips. I actually found some Nu Silver at Cake Carousel which is just across town. I'm excited and can't wait to give it a try.
