I am watching the food network show and one of the teams is painting black. It is beautiful and shiny. Anyone know how they did that?

I would love to know also. Here's a bump.

I would also like to know where to get one of the stencils that she used to put the royal icing on the side of the cake.

They used luster dust (probably mixed with vodka) to paint the shiny parts on the cake.

I know you can get some cake stencils from www.sweetc.com, but I'm not sure if they have that particular one...I'm sure there are other places to get them, too, but I'm pretty new to this so that's the only one I know of.

For a shiny black like that, I use gel color and add a little bit of airbrush color in the same shade to make it more of a "paint" consistency.

I see you also were looking for lace stencils macksnax has a cake in the bridal shower gallery. where she uses lace for drawer liners. It really turned out nicely. You could probably pm her. It looks a lot like what was on the cake competion last night. She has a good explaination under the picture.
