Hi all- I'm new to cake decorating and to this site and I have what is probably a really stupid question - I love the ribbon and/or pearl look at the base of the cakes and wanted to know what you use to attach them in the back. Thanks.

I always use royal icing for sticking things to cakes or to 'glue' decorations together. It holds well and dries quickly.

Sometimes I use water, especially for ribbon. For small pearls, I would use water again, for larger pearls either buttercream or royal icing, depending upon what I have on hand.

For ribbon I put it on buttercreme before it crust over. For strings of pearls I put them in a buttercreme border before it crust over. I have several in my pictures. If you have any questions please let me know.

I mostly use piping gel to attach them.
