I have a customer who wants these chocolates for her shower but I can't find the mold anywhere. Am I allowed to have a chocolate mold made like this and make and sell them myself? I've had alot of people comment on them and like them. I figured if I was able to I would also offer them.

Thanks
Michelle

I would have to say...not legal. At the bottom of that page is a copyright, so I'd steer clear.

Now....if you know someone who can make a mold (without using one of these candies as a base), and will make one like that but with maybe a bellybutton or something, that would make it different, then THAT might be a way to go.

I am guessing you could make your own. if you took one of the pregnant barbies and made a mold out of her belly and boobs, you could pour chocolate into it and voila' there you go! =) I don't know how anyone could copyright boobs and a belly, the name yes, but not the shape itself.

That's what I was thinking. I've seen tons of other chocolates like high heel shoes, which is another thing I was thinking about doing, however I can find a mold for that. Should I do a variation of it or maybe if I put a print on it? Does anyone know who I could contact to be for certain?

Thanks
Michelle

I just took a chocolate class and the instructor had one of her shoes made into a lifesize mold. It was expensive--set up charge, minimum order, etc., but it is possible.

If I were going to do this, I'd get some Sculpey or Fimo clay, make a sculpture of what I wanted, bake it, and send it off to the mold maker. There would be no way to say that it wasn't your own. The "bellies" may be copyrighted, but the idea itself cannot be copyrighted and you have the right to interpret it any way you want. I'd certainly name them something different and I'd decorate them in my own style.

Looks like a great niche market and I'd say go for it if you feel that the initial expense is worth it!

www.makeyourownmolds.com has 6oz. trial kits of their stuff for $12. I would guess that would be enough to make a mold of a pregnant Barbie belly. All you have to do is mix the compounds together and place them over the item you want to have a mold of and let it dry. Voila! Foodsafe mold!

I haven't used this company before, but the ICES website has a link to them, so I would consider them trustworthy.

Okay mnmmommy this is not directly pointing at you specifically icon_lol.gif it is just that I have to finally comment on this since it is burdening my heart.

But is there anyone out there in CC land like me that finds this sort of thing very weird, like ish eating a pregnant belly chocolate, like ish cutting into a P.G. belly cake, like really ish eating baby cupcakes, or baby heads in peapods, etc. etc, etc.

Every time I see one of these photo's on cake central I think of the Donner Party and can not for any reason get it out of my head that we are somewhat a cannibalistic society and everyone seems to find them sooooooooo cute. Ewwwwww icon_eek.gif

Again, sorry mnmmommy..sorry, sorry, I don't mean to rain on your parade.

Hi TipTop. I feel the same way. I can really understand how others would like this idea and think it's really cute, but when I clicked the link and saw the pregnant bellies my first thought was "ewww, I don't like that". No offense intended to anyone of course! icon_smile.gif

tiptop57, there was a thread before where a lot of people commented that they don't like to cut a "baby" cake. I guess it is strange.

mnmmommy, if you make your own mold of a pregnant belly, then it's your own mold. I don't see any reason you can't do it.

What ever happened to cute shower favors like rattles and bottles and stuff? ... hard to believe people prefer a pregnant belly!

Hmmm... I guess I never thought about it that way. HOwever, I dont see really see it thay way either.

I guess its just that its JUST cake.

On the other hand.... I could easily eat a P.B. Cake in comparison to some of the cakes in the naughty section....

Not because of the cannibalism thought....just because of the other thoughts that come to mind... icon_confused.gif yuck!

So...I guess it all comes down to how bad you want that piece of cake icon_smile.gif

I agree, the pregnant belly chocolate is not really my thing but a couple of people related to this person were going crazy over it. Whatever floats your boat I guess. I was just thinking if this is another way to make some money and it doesn't seem to be out ther alot maybe it could be a good thing. Who knows. I don't think I'm going to do it the more I look at it. I would have to give it a shirt of something. I like the cakes and the clients really seem to like it too.

Thanks for everyones help.

Michelle
