I am using the letter "m" from the make any message set. I want to get the letter on there(the imprint) somehow before I trace it. I tried it just by itself and pushing a little into the cake and it cracked it in like a gazillion places. I tried dipping it in cornstarch too and that didn't work. ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

TIA

Yummyhobby--

Try tracing it on parchment paper, then flip it over and with food coloring markers, trace it on the back side (it will be backwards). Lay parchment on petit four and then lightly go over the front side with a toothpick to transfer the marker line onto your petit four. Then cover with frosting.

Draw or download a font you like for the "M"
Print a bunch on your paper.
Cover the paper with wax paper.
Pipe with #3 round, using roya;l icing the color you want.
Transfer each to the petitfour when dry.

Viola!

Thanks so much!! I always know I can count on the folks that use this site to help me out! Those are both really great ideas. The only thing is.... I have never ventured into royal icing. Is it too hard to eat? I want the whole petit four to be soft. This seems like a great way to accomplish what I am needing so I would love to know your experience with it!!

Yummyhobby--
You can use either buttercream or royal icing once you have transferred the outline to the petit four.

Sure you will. I've been decorating for over 20 years. You know that saying--practice makes perfect but I am far from perfect but I keep trying.
