I admit it...I copied this cake off the Wilton website! <grin>
It was amazingly easy to make, with one exception....the swag. I rolled the white and red ribbons together, but they kept separating whenever I tried to lift it. I finally brushed water on the swag as it sat on my counter, and that seemed to hold the stripes together, but then I couldn't get rid of the shine (I wanted a more matte finish)
Does anyone have any advice formaking multi-colored swags and not having the individual color ribbons falling apart?
Thanks!
The cake came out great! I've always liked that one and you did it perfectly. The swag is glossy but that didn't take away from the cake. Did the water ever dry? Or did it stay glossy? Maybe if you used something else to put them together like clear vanilla?
I think I would do the swag by rolling out the white to the width and length of the whole swag and then adding the red stripes either by painting them on or airbrushing them (or out of a can). You could use a stencil to keep the lines straight. Seems like it would be easier. I don't know though...never done it. What do you think?
