Okay...I know I always have these weird questions...call me a nut or an innovator. Could you coat ribbon in modge podge for cakes? I HATE ironing on the waxed paper and don't even feel it works that well.
Is modge podge non-toxic? Does it have a taste? What about elmer's glue??
I am thinking of dipping, or spraying something non-toxic on. Wouldn't it be great if there was a spray wax (sort of like furniture dusting stuff but just wax)??
What do you think?![]()
well, there is spray edible shellac...meant to give a gloss to chocolates and such.
and there is that wax like on apples and many veggies.
both would be food safe, just a question of if they would work
I wouldn't do either Modge-podge or elmers if not other reaon that transfer of taste to cake (every tasted elmers -- sour milk!!)
Doug: Where do you find this spray shellac?
Also: what about dipping ribbon in some sort of meringue powder mixture. Would this "shellac" it?
ok...back from researching.
using apples as the model found out (thank you Washington State Apple Growers Assoc.)
that the wax on them is either:
> the edible shellac (mentioned previously)
or
> carnauba wax (sometimes spelled carnuba) -- it's supposedly the hardest and glossiest (and used by auto polisher purists!!)
one source: mountain herbs
and another: Southeast Texas Honey Co.
which reminds me that beeswax is also a safe wax too.

i found spray shellac at www.pastrychef.com (choose ingredients side)
