My son is almost 7 1/2, he's been wearing deodorant since he was 6. The other night as he was about to enter the tub he showed me a few pubic hairs! I didn't make a big deal out of it and explained about how his body was beginning to change now that he was growing up. He's big for his age and solid but not fat. Is this a common thing? Is it happening to anyone else? Just curious....
not happening yet here but when i took my kids in for their well checks at 7 i was told to tell them all about the changes so that they will be ready because now boys go through puberty anywhere from 7 to 10. i think its different for everyone. i dont know when i thought it would happen but to me even 10 seemed too young.
There have been several studies done in re: to children going thru puberty at earlier ages. Something to do with all the extra stuff they pump our meat producing animals with. Animals eat this stuff, grow faster and fatter. As they say you are what you eat. I've seen this in my grandaughters who had to start wearing bra's in 4th and 5th grade. You might do a search on internet for the exact articles. HTH
That's scary. I don't think kids that age are ready mentally for such changes. I have a 7 year old myself and am *so* not ready for puberty!
It IS unusual for a child, particularly a boy, to go through puberty so young but it's not unheard of. In terms of how you deal with it you need to think about howit's going to affect him compared to his friends - he'll need to know about things you may not be comfortable talking about - for example he'll get mood swings, he'll start getting erections and possibly wet dreams etc. It might be worth talking to your doctor about it just to set your mind at rest and also his teacher as she may need to be aware of it for when the boys are changing for PE.
