I have been making cakes from scratch for years. I use a basic 1,2,3,4 cake recipe and I have had no complaints by anyone but myself. I, being my own critic, feel that the cake is a little on the dry side....I don't want to go to drastic measures but I was wondering if anyone knew of anything subtle that could be added to a scratch recipe to make it a little more moist. I am making a baseball themed bday cake tonight for my son's 7th bday party tomorrow. Thanks for all your help!

I've read some people say they coat their cakes w/ simple syrup befor frosting them.......also you can try putting a heaping tablespoon of sourcream in your batter

Depending on the flavor, I add about 1/2 cup of sour cream, or vanilla yogurt, or applesauce to each batch of batter.

I use the Super Enhanced recipe for my chocolate cake and it is DELICIOUS. Here is the link: www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-1953-super-enhanced-cake-formula.html

I use the Duncan Hines Devil's Food Chocolate mix and don't add the extra cocoa.

I am so sorry! I did not see those replies. I should have scrolled down instead of only reading the first answer. Please accept my apology and I will read further from now on. icon_redface.gif
