hey guys,
i'm REALLY new to all of this and was wondering if anyone had some tips on cleaning metal sifters. i tried rinsing them and then shaking and patting them and then letting them sit, but i still get little bits of dried flour in some of the holes and it's making me crazy! ![]()
What about using an old toothbrush or a regular dishwashing brush to get into the little holes?
Is there some reason not to put it in the dishwasher? I was horrified when my husband did it, but it didn't seem to do any damage and it was really clean! So now we do it all the time!!!!
By the way, I have a SYSCO sifter that is the size of a coffee can and I love it because it holds exactly 2 pounds of p.sugar so I don't have to measure and I can buy in bulk from Costco.
all these years I have been using a strainer!! I wonder if there is that much of a difference????
Thanks caes47. Love your saying. Depending on where I am or where my freinds are the word "giants" could be anguishes. Rich and poor have them --- giants and anguishes!
I read in one of my cake books not to wash a sifter. I shake it out and tap on the sides to get everything out. I might take a damp rag and wipe the outside if my hands have gotten it greasy. I store it it a plastic bag to keep dust out. The sifter I have now looks much cleaner than the one I had before that I washed.
You can use a strainer or a sifter, it's really just personal preference. I tend to make a huge mess when I use a strainer LOL.
thanks for all of the help yall
I am glad to help you!! ![]()
I purchase 2lb bags of powdered sugar which don't require sifting. The only time I need to sift my sugar is when I purchase the box variety.
True, with the 2lb bags you don't need to sift EXCEPT, if you are making the marshmallow fondant my friend and I have found that does require sifting.
