I always have this problem with my mmf cracking! see in this picture! I have a fine time when sculpting (although it is a bit dusty
) but when I roll it out and then try to put it on the cake it cracks. I am so frustrated! I start with it feeling very nice and not sticking to my hand, do I have it too dry? Do I need to use it immediately after making it so it is VERY fresh? Please help me with this problem. I can't get my picture to attatch so I will put it in the gallery.
Thanks
Did you try popping it in the microwave for a few seconds? I usually do that and it works just fine.Crisco will also help smooth out any cracks.
With MMF, you should let it set at least 24 hours after you make it. Then, you should grease it up when you start working with it. Make sure your hands are well greased and your surface is too. Some people use cornstarch or powdered sugar to keep it from sticking to the surface and that just dries out your fondant. If you're already doing all these things, I'm not sure what to tellyou.
I tried smoothing out the cracks with crisco and it just filled them in with white. I do use cornstarch, I have tried with just crisco and it turned out wierd. I am sure the crisco will work but I am obviously doing something wrong, too much/ too little. I need to see it done... need to find a fondant mentor.... I am on a quest!
keep kneading in crisco... and i don't always have time to make ahead so i do use the mmf right away and never had any problems with it.. but letting it sit and rest overnight is good too.
crisco is the BIG trick to keeping it moist and pliable. I think the water works some, but too much and you get a sticky mess.
i use mmf ALL of the time and love it!!!!!
I do not ever use the cornstarch or powdered sugar to roll the fondant out. I ALWAYS use crisco ~ and the fondant works flawlessly. (and never has that yucky "dust" all over it) It takes just a little bit of it. I think the crisco helps to make the fondant more elastic....where the cornstarch or powdered sugar takes it away.
