Try craft wire shape it the way you want and the length. Then cover it with MMF pain, paint it the color of the icing. That may work. Its a thought at almost midnite I am lucky to have a thought. LOL MC

Ditto. I once made an Easter basket cake. I used cloth covered florist wire and covered with a 3 ply twisted spiral of fondant. I would suggest cloth or paper covered wire as the fondant can better adhere to it than bare wire. HTH

I used papers and fold it pretty thick to the length I want, then wrap with alumminium foil, follow by ribbon.

...best thing ive seen and done to make a handle is use a plastic one off of a ice cream "bucket" Container...just wash it up, stick it in your finished cake and overpipe it .. if you wanted to go the ribbon route, you could wrap it in satin coloured ribbons too.... good luck!

You could also use the craft wire to make the shape of the handle and then pipe over it in royal icing. When it dries, turn it over and pipe over the other side.

I think I read that somewhere.

Good luck! icon_smile.gif

Just a thought ... might try twisting fondant "ropes" around and around the length.

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas. I think I will try the fondant "ropes". I was thinking that might work or even royal icing. I just wasn't sure if they would work but since you wonderful people have the same ideas, I'm sure they will.

Any other information or ideas would be appreciated.

In my one and only picture on the site, I used a plastic handle from a detergent bucket and covered it in fondant.

I once made one with royal icing. I used tip 12 and piped it on wax paper to let dry - then I added tip 5 (I think) "ropes" going from one end to the other. I wasn't real careful and let the ropes break and filled in empty areas randomly. It ended up looking like a twig handle. I hope I explained this ok. Wish I had a picture but it is locked in a bad hard drive!! icon_cry.gif

I just made some handles out of fondant. I have them drying in the kitchen. I made about 5 of them and have them draped over pans & bowls to dry. I need this for Thursday evening. I will try to post a picture when I'm done. Thanks for all the suggestions
