I've taken a decorated cake as a carry on - on a trans-Atlantic flight even. As long as it will fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin, you will be ok (I placed mine in front of me so I could check easily during the flight). The security people always make jokes about confiscating cake ![]()
I would love to bring a cake for my mom to California from Atlanta next month, but geez, the airports suck!
I was told I could not even bring water through the security checkpoint. Just another way to scam $2.50 out of you for a bottle of rocky mountain tap water. JMHO
I would be so scared to spend hours on a cake to have a bunch of security guards eat it to make sure it was safe!!!! ![]()

How long ago was that? I know that with all the new rules so many things that we used to do have changed. I need to send a cake to Florida and my aunt is going so I would love to send it with her. Otherwise I have to figure another way to get it there. Please any ideas.

I flew across country in November and was allowed to take ethnic foods from my area on with me (lefse, kuchen, rosettes, knoeffla dumplings) in my carry on. You cannot take liquids on with you though unless they've been purchased in the airport after you've passed security.
Here is a link to the TSA rules. They seem to mostly be concerned with gel or liquid items. The cake would have to pass through the x-ray machine at the security gate so would be somewhat irradiated food.
