I made the easy MMF yesterday and so far I love it. I have colored two small batches for a cake. I used Americolor Electric Green and Electric Blue. My question is this, does the color deepen and darken like with buttercream?

I was surprised how easy it was to work the color in. It went much faster and was easy than I expected.

The color does deepen as it sits. In fact, I colored a batch two weeks ago with buttercup yellow from Wilton's line and it's almost orange now.

hi darkchocolate! its me again, marj...umm..is it easy to use the americolor gels? i am waiting for mine to be delivered and i wonder if i will have a hard time using it..do i have to get color flo? and about your question.. based on my experience with wilton color gels, i think it would not change unless as what we had discussed yersterday, you exposed it to direct sunlight or flourescent light.. icon_smile.gif ... maybe i am wrong, so maybe somebody can tell us..so here's a bump! icon_wink.gif

hi marj,

I love my Americolor gels so far and I don't use Color Flo. I don't even have any Color Flo. Like I said in my post I was surprised how easily the Americolor gels colored the MMF. I was expecting it to take a while and really have to kneed the MMF but it was almost effortless. Much easier than making the Easy MMF thats for sure. My arm got a real work out. Thanks for letting me know about the light (sunlight and flourescent).

Misdawn and shrek, thank you for letting me know about the yellow turning orange. That is a scary thought. Lesson learned I guess is not to color it to far inadvance.

I have similar question, when making darker colors is it best to add color when making mmf, melting stage and if so, what is the best type of color i.e. paste, gel to use

Clo Flo is for coloring chocolate with regular gel colors. It keeps the chocolate from seizing up.

I add my color (I use Americolors) when the marshmallows are melted, mix to get the color I want then add to the powdered sugar. I haven't had a problemwith MMF changing colors. I wrap it in plastic wrap then foil then put in a plastic baggie.

thanks for the tip on coloring mmf, I use paramont crystals when coloring chocolate for the same reason.
