I made a french vanilla buttercream last night for the first time and it just tastes like vanilla flavoured butter. it called to ice bath the custard(milk, sugar, flour)then add butter and with paddle attachment beat until combined then add whipping cream then beat until smooth. Did all this but used beater attachment in lieu. Boyfriend thinks it tastes ok but I think that as a filler will be too buttery. Thinking of adding icing sugar, meringue powder and perhaps a liquer(hazelnut) to taste. Any ideas out there. Any help will be great help!
