Are there instructions in any of the old wilton yearbooks on how to use these (ie, how to lay them out on different size cakes so the design matches up, etc). If there are instructions out there, is anyone willing to share them or point me towards where to find them? TIA!

I don't think there is anything. Are they the big ones?

I've had mine for over 20 years ... hardly ever use them. Mine doesn't have as many pieces as this set.
I did just buy small ones, used them once so far, but I see so many uses for them.

Well, thanks for the reply anyway. I'd love to use mine more, I just don't relish the idea of having to smooth over icing because I miscalculated...it would be nice if there were instructions or something!

To get an idea of how the pattern would look, you can put some flour (about 1/4 inch or so) into the same size cake pan that you used for the cake, and press into the flour to make your pattern. If you don't like it, just give it a little shake and start over.

That would give you a chance to try different spacing and see what you like before you start on the cake, and when you're finished "playing", you can just dump the flour out and rinse the pan out.
