I need to make a cake in the shape of a fortune cookie and I need help figuring out how to accomplish this. All I know is that it will be covered in fondant and possibly carved out of a 2 or 3 layer 8 inch round cake. Is this even possible? Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks!

well, now, if this isn't a challenge!!!

ok...first off, I searched internet & CC galleries, came up empty on any cakes.

found the really great pic of a fortune cookie (below) to use as guide.

ok..so you need 2 wonder mold cakes and a round that matches size of wonder molds when put together.

see sketch #1

split round, stack to make back

cut off part of wondermolds to get the flatter inside of cookie.
(if want more authentic, split remaing wonder mold in half and off set as in profile, sketch #2).

place two wonder molds against stacked half-rounds.

hit w/ BC to smooth out.

then -- if using crusting BC -- viva it

but, I'd use fondant so can get color and texture easier.

and don't forget a little strip of white fondant sticking out of one side w/ start of fortune on it.

Wow! When I asked for advice I never expected anything like that! You're awesome. Thank you so much. I never thought of using wonder molds. I'm practicing today so I'll let you know how it works out.
Thanks again!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Well.....it worked but it didn't work. I was able to get the cake in the shape of the cookie but it was very hard to get the fondant onto the cake because of the way it folds in the middle section.

Your fortune cookie cake looks awesome! You did a fantastic job! And I like the idea of doing the lantern with it to go with the theme!

Thanks everyone! To answer your question...I didn't use doug's method. I tried his out during a practice run and it worked but I wanted the cake to be carved from 1 cake so that's what I did. I carved it from a 2 layer 10 inch round cake. It came out smoother and was more stable that way.

My customer was thrilled and I may be getting a lot more clients from this.
