Here is my pro list for using dummies for wedding cakes...there are alot of different questions on these so I thought I would share....
1. Can make cake as far ahead as you need to
2. Easily transported...no worries of doweling or falling etc.
3. Can be reused
4. Can be manipulated easily(turned, lifted, etc.) to decorate
5. Don't have to worry about icing melting, spoiling, etc in the heat
6. Cakes can be cut & plated ahead of time
These are the things I can think of right now....after I've had coffee, I'm sure I will add more.
Feel free to add to my list or to start a con list...
Here's a con: I went to a wedding in march where the couple was from a different state but got married here, so her parents took care of the cake. Little did they know it was a dummy cake and they spent 5 minutes trying to cut into a styrofoam cake!
hmmm...i guess that could be a con I usually put a small cake behind the wedding cake so the couple can still do their cake cutting.
I can't say that I've ever had anyone try to cut into the styrofoam yet
shrek..I got mine at dallasfoam.com ...there prices are really good...shipping is alot though. I got 9 cake dummies for around $17 plus the $23 shipping. Its what i would have paid in the store so I think it all evens out.
I also bought a few at Joann Fabrics awhile back, but I couldn't find the sizes I needed this time.
