Hello everyone!
Ok, I'm having zero creativity today so I need your help!! I have a good friend who is in the Navy, getting ready to leave for Iraq. We are celebrating his birthday on Saturday....I need ideas for a cake!!! His mom wants to put a Navy Seal on it somewhere and wants it to say Happy Birthday. I'm having a hard time visualizing an idea for this one!!! HELP!!! Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks,
Valerie
An anchor with the Navy emblem in the middle. Then use a rope mold and have the rope go around it or over the top or something.
My hubby works at the Naval Academy. If I hear Anchors away one more time....I think I will lose my mind!!
If you dont like this idea, Im sure I can ask him and he would have several from either him or the 130 midshipmen in the Drum Corp he teaches!
Well mine isn't a Navy cake directly.. it's a Marine Corps cake.. but take a look at it and maybe you could get an idea. It's just the USMC logo, but you could make it smaller and write HAPPY BIRTHDAY SO-AND-SO around the logo..
You could get the Navy symbol and then get an edible image done of it and place that on the cake with happy birthday written in big thick block letters. Then maybe put sprinkles on the cake in the Navy colors....and i would probably do a rope border also...
I made a gumpaste cover for a Navy going-away party, it's in my pics if you'd like to take a look. If you visit the "Military families" thread in the lounge, many of the people posting there have a lot of military-theme cakes in their photos. Hope that helps!
I did a cake for the Marine Corps birthday and I took a Marine symbol off the internet and laminated it. Used it in the center of the top round cake. It set on top of a huge square cake. I had to write "Semper Fi" and the number of years on it so I put those on the bottom layer and just trimmed it out with a shell border (because I had never done the rope border) and put little cocktail American Flag toothpicks around it. Turned out really cute. I have never done a FBCT so the laminated symbol was the only think I could think of to do. I just put a border around it.

Check out Janet Brown's cakes. You may not be able to recreate everything on it, but I do know the emblems are edible images printed out and attached to dried gumpaste plaques, with fondant rope borders done by twisiting two sauage shape rolls of fondant together, attached and then painted gold for the frames.
