I don't have an airbrush, but I've seen fondant cakes that were painted, so I'm sure it is possible.

Absolutely yes. Just let the fondant dry for at least 15 min after cpveromg the cake. It makes an excellent canvas.

I have seen painted cakes as well, just wasn't sure about airbrushing. At least I now know that I am not limited to buttercream. icon_cool.gif

I have 2 comments about this topic.

1) I think I had a chemical reaction one time between the airbrush color and the fondant b/c of the extract I used in the fondant. I used lemon extract and black color. The black was fine wet but when it dried it was irridescent green. On the fondant I didn't use lemon extract, it stayed black.

2) I wouldn't let it dry much at all, if you can't do it right on the cake. I made straps for sandles and sprayed them. When I went to use them, the places I bent the straps a little became cracked and the white showed through.

Just my 2c

I airbrushed this fondant plaque. It was dried in advance, but I don't see why you couldn't do it on fresh fondant. I've airburshed luster dusts on fondant as well.

(I did use paint on black color gel instead of airbrushing the black parts of this.)

and we can turn that to an advantage next time we want an irradescent green dragon!!! ....

sometimes out of disaster and mistakes, come new techniques.

(example: corningware was "accidentally" invented!)
