I just had someone tell me they use "tappits" for their lettering. How does this work? Do you use fondant, BC, royal??? I looked up tappits on google and saw that there are several different kinds - designs, letters, etc.

if you go here

and scroll down to almost the bottom of the page, it tells something about them.

use fondant or gumpaste, rolled really thin then just cut the item out (make sure to let the paste set up abit before cutting) then as the piece will stick in the cutter you tap It on the counter to get it out.

I prefer gumpaste, as THIN is the key to success with Tappits. I was taught to LIGHTLY grease the rolling surface....then take your fingers and run them over the cutting surface of the Tappit. In some instances, you might need to keep the cutter in place on the gumpaste and kind of scoot it around on the cutting surface to get all the edges to cut cleanly. Haven't had to do that much, though. When I've remembered to put that light swipe of Crisco on the cutter, it has popped right out. Sometimes, when I forget, I have to use the head of a pin to coax a corner...from then it comes out fine. They make some terrific cutters. LOVE the letters!
