I need some suggestions for decorating the table that the cake will sit on at the wedding. The theme is Viking/Nature..
The cake will have twigs up the sides with grass, rocks and flowers around top edges...There will also be a norse castle cake. The bride and groom love shrek-it will be there cake topper- and the flowers will be purple...This is my first time, so any and all suggestions would be WONDERFUL!!! Thanks so much

You could find some nice looking ivy, like might grow up the side of a castle, and cover parts of the table with that, maybe a few decorative rocks, and a few of the flowers that match the cake! You could even add a few twigs here and there. OOH - you could make or buy log candle holders and have some of those on the table! Stick with the "natural" idea of the cake, and also that kind of rustic feel a castle has.

I don't really have any suggestions, but I'd LOVE to see your cake when you're done. I do medieval re-creation as a hobby, and my persona (the person I 'play') is a Norse woman. icon_smile.gif

Flounced purple (to match cake topper) tulle over a string of mini-lights. Know what "Harry Lauder walking stick" is? It's a contorta (plant) that has very twisted branches. Some of those on top of the tulle with silk ivy/greenery. Table should be skirted to the floor. BTW, I'd love to see a forum or at least a thread concerning tablescaping and reception decor in general.

I can't wait to see this cake!!!
Any chance of finding an old wooden table or having someone make it from scraps? Rustic is perfect. I like the twigs and greenery ideas also.
Maybe willow branches/sticks standing on end and going around the table and tied with twine...sort of like a barrel made of branches. How about setting the cake on a board/plank with rocks underneath, maybe some moss on the table too.

Handymama..Great Idea!!!...I would love something on decot/tablescapes....maybe a photo gallery too.

You may be able to get or borrow an old table and some willow branches ($$ at store) on Freecycle. Check out your area most places have one. Just look up "Freecycle". Great place for pans too. People post things they have or make requests. Everyone is usually very friendly & helpful. You would be surprised at the things strangers will let you borrow!! There's still good people out there!!

I want to thank everyone for your replys... You have some wonderful ideas. I would also love to see CC do something on table decorations- seems it is so easy to go overboard..I don't want to overshadow the cake but I want the presentation to be beautiful... I'm excited to do this cake and I will take all of your ideas to heart...
Thanks Again

Do you know anyone who belongs to a garden club? They would probably know someone who is growing it.
