Does anyone know how to make a simple syrup. I had previosly thought you just mix water and sugar and then brush it over your cake. I am now thinking that I might need to boil the mixture. I also have no exact mesurements for simple syrup. So any suggestions on how to make and apply simple syrup are greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Here's what I use
2 cups granulated sugar,
2 tbsp. light corn syrup
1 cup water
Mix everything together in a saucepan bring to a boil on the stove and simmer on the stove for about 2 minutes to dissolve the sugar into the water. Let cool, keep in a covered container and store in fridge, will keep for an indefinite period of time. You can also flavor the syrup prior to brushing onto the cake.
Hope this helps

Equal parts granulated sugar and water (by weight). Bring to a boil then stir to make sure all the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Stores in fridge for several months. Oh and a pint of water = 1 pound of water.

Some people use it on the cake layers to make them moist. Or use to sweeten iced tea icon_smile.gif

Yes! My DH and I both are! We have ALL of his shows on DVD and ALL of his books! We'd both love to meet him one day. Maybe sometime when we're up in Marrietta shopping at Harry's Farmers Market we'll get lucky....

I thought you had to be. When you start talking in Alton speak, like "By weight" and "a pint is a pound, world round." you are a definate AB freak! I am just like you. I have the DVDs, the cookbooks, the gadgets, and even the t-shirts! My husband and I (own DVDs, mind you) record every episode on DVR just in case we missed one somewhere! LOL

I actually just made some today- it was 2 parts sugar to one part water- I just got the water boiling and then dumped the sugar in- stirred until it was dissolved- then took it off of the heat and let cool> I guess I can use the leftovers for cake, but mine was for making hurricanes with our crawfish boil!! icon_smile.gif

Hehe. Yeah, I guess I never realized how much AB-speak I've adopted! icon_smile.gif We have a lot of the gadgets, too. One of the first we got was the kosher salt dish. We've just about managed to convert all of our friends over to kosher salt, too! icon_biggrin.gif

We don't have a DVR yet icon_sad.gif

My hubby has tried a LOT of his recipes. I've tried some. I can't wait to try the lamb recipe from the pomegrante show!
