What is the best type of icing to use to make a fbct in black? In the article, she says to use Vons or Wilton's black for outlining, but we don't have a Von's here, and I'm not sure what she means about the Wilton's black--is that ready made icing? Or is that adding Wilton's black color to the fbct recipe? Help please! icon_smile.gif

Here's the paragraph I'm referring to:
Outlining note: I use store brand (VONS) fudge icing or Wiltons Black. These are thicker and seem to not smudge as badly as homemade buttercream. The fudge seems to work better. I have found that name brand fudge icing is too creamy. The Wiltons black will try to lift off of the wax paper. This must be used with care.

Thanks!

Not sure exactly what she is referring to, but when I did a JoJo's Circus fbct, I used a tube of Wilton black, already colored. I think it was 2.50.

I have only done 3 FBCT but I don't like the bleeding I got from the black icing. I just colored the FBCT icing. Next time I plan on using Chocolate Buttercream and using dark cocoa which is very dark for my outline. I may add some black gel if I need to.

I use chocolat frosting from the can for my outlines. Worked for me but I've only done a few of them.

I just did a FBCT with a lot of black and used the recipe from the instructions on here and substituted cocoa for some of the PS to make chocolate, then added black gel color. It seems to have worked well. I tried red Wilton's tube frosting and it wouldn't come off of the wax paper so I am afraid to try the store bought stuff again!

I ended up just adding black color to the FBCT recipe and it worked just fine. No bleeding at all. I love the FBCT technique!
