Can you put fondant over royal icing?
I'm making a graduation Elmo out of Rice Krispie treats and he's (obviously) bumpy. I'm going to cover his hands, feet, face, etc. with red royal icing 'fur', but for his body, he's being covered in a fondant gown (to go with the graduation hat that's going on his head).
Can I ice him smooth in royal icing, then put fondant over that?
I don't see why not but I've never actually tried it
puzzled....
did you really mean ROYAL and not BUTTERCREAM?
(fear royal would make for one crunchy cake)
fondant works on top of buttercream, so should work just fine over royal too.
I was thinking the same thing.
I don't see why it wouldn't work over royal, just make sure the royal isn't dry when you put the fondant over it or it won't stick. I personally would use buttercream instead though, just because it's softer to bite into.
Not to mention that Royal is not nearly as tasty as BC!!!
I think I confused everyone!!! LOL!! The actual cake itself isn't really part of the question. It's the Rice Krispie Elmo that's going to be standing on TOP of the cake that I'm asking about.
He's made of rice krispie treats and I'm covering him in royal icing fur. He's going to be wearing a fondant cap and gown. I just wanted to know when I put the gown on him, could I use some fondant to stick it down with (instead of buttercream).
Does that make more sense?
