I'm leaning towards doing a BCT of the following picture, which is a pair of Schultz and Dooley beer steins, for a 50th birthday party. I'd like some opinions. Should I just do the steins and then after I transfer it, pipe on the blue flowers, or should I include them in the BCT? Thanks for any suggestions!!
I have only done one transfer so I am by no means an expert, or even a well informed person to ask...however, if it was me attempting it, I would try it as part of the frozen transfer in the off chance I messed it up. The flowers look so detailed, I would want to be very careful and not do it directly on the cake. If you are a very experienced decorator, then your skills might allow you to do it on the cake. I think it comes down to what you feel comfortable with. I would feel comfortable outlining on a cake if I was filling it with stars, but if it is to look smooth like a transfer, I would do it separately. (That's just me).
I was also thinking about an edible image, but living in a rural area, there's not much around here, and I don't have the materials to make my own.
I'm really just concerned about smushing the blue design if i include it in the transfer.
Also, would it be a good idea to sort of do it in layers, like do the outline, then freeze for a bit, then fill it in and freeze again?
If I were to do this one, I would include the blue flowers on the design and then if it needed it, pipe over it with a second coat of blue over on the top.
I have only done three transfers so far and on two of them that is what I did. I had text on one and I piped over the text and the outline after it was already on the cake. It looked neat.

I know that Kroger will sell the edible image by itself. Most stores can scan the photo and let you know if it will come out clearly. If you don't want to deal with all the detail work...it might be worth calling around. I did an edible image of a coffee cup one time with similar colors and it actually came out really clear. As you can see...I sometimes do not like to mess with all that detail work! ![]()
