Well, I started making cakes for pay the very end of last year, and luckily orders picked up at a decent pace (1-2 per week). I am now going on the 4th week with no order! icon_cry.gif Any advice? I'm starting to have cake withdrawels!

I know how you feel--I have yet to sell a cake, but I do get the itch when it's been a few weeks and there's no parties or get togethers to decorate for... The only thing I can think of is to just 'play' with some dummies for your cake book (or whatever cake decorators call their book that has all the pictures of their work to show off)... That's what I do sometimes...

Hope someone can give you some pointers!

We all go through dry spells at one time or another. I do what Lybby does, play!! icon_biggrin.gif I have so many techniques I want to perfect and many more I want to learn -- those down times can come in quite handy! icon_lol.gif

Think of a friend who works in a big office or something! Make your best tasting cake and decorate it and take it in as a suprise. Make it big enough to share. Of course bring some cards with you! Sometimes free cake is enough to get orders pouring in again!

I'm sorry to hear that, for you. I have a feeling I'll be going through the same this summer. I have several orders through the end of June, but so far nothing more until Oct. icon_sad.gif Hopefully it will pick up for us both!!

However, I did read another thread on here earlier, saying that she (can't remember who) had made small 6in cakes for her local businesses. She delivered the free cakes along with some business cards. She had said that she has received a ton of business just from that. Maybe we should both try it icon_smile.gif

I'm grateful for this thread because it is humbling to me. I have been complaining about never having a free weekend because of cake orders. I had 7 week before last and 4 last weekend. I have a 3 tier cake, 40 cupcakes, a baby shower cake, and a birthday cake thisweekend. I had promised myself I would take the weekend of Father's Day off, but I felt sorry for people and have agreed to cakes that weekend too.

Looking at this thread makes me feel selfish for complaining. I just wish sometimes that I could stick to what I say and take a week off. I just can't say no when someone asks.
