I went to Hastings to buy one book. HONEST the intent was to get ONE.
I dont know what happened. I went in found one book and WHAM!!!!
The next thing I know I'm in the car with 3... Sounds IMPOSSIBLE I know.
But it's true.
SO.... now tell me..
I got
The Cake Mix Doctor
Chocolate From the Cake Mix Doctor
and
Betty Crocker- Ultimate cake mix
What recipies do you love and which ones are good for wedding cakes.
"Chocolate From The Cake Mix Doctor" is fantastic. It's my go-to book for doctored mixes. My recommendations are:
- -The Lighter Chocolate Pound Cake is good and moist, but still fairly sturdy. I've used it in character pans, as layers, and in a bundt pan.
-Chcolate Cream Cheese Pound Cake and Chocolate-Orange Cream Cheese Pound cake also both very yummy, also pretty good at holding a shape.
-The Boston Cream Pie cake is a favorite of my dad. He's asked for that for many occasions. Make extra glaze that this cake calls for, it's great on ice cream
-Chocolate Midnight cake is extremely moist and yummy, but fairly delicate. I'd be afraid to put any serious weight on it, like fondant, or it would squish flat.
I just made the Darn Good Chocolate Cake recipe from The Cake Mix Dr. and I swear, she's not lying!!!
Not only is it darn good... it's over the top OMG where has this cake disappeared to because everyone ate it so fast good. I swear to never eat another chocolate cake that is not this recipe! ![]()
I'ma Wilton book hog. I'm addicted! So, what are your views on using box mixes? I feel so cheap ![]()
I love "the Cake Mix Doctor" I like the Darn good chocolate cake, and I like the basic yogurt cake on page 400. I switch the flavours on this one all the time. It makes a really yummy moist cake. We like it 1. with strawberry yogurt and pudding and 2. with vanilla like it says with chocolate chips added. YUM!! We also use chocolate pudding with plain or vanilla yogurt for a less intense choc. cake.
