The first week of September I'm going to be making my first wedding cake. I have figured out everything I need except the filling amounts. It's my sister's cake and she still hasn't told me what flavors in what layers. I'll know within the next week.
The cake sizes are 16" 12" 8" 6" and 2 one layer 12" hearts.
The hearts are going to be white with a strawberry jam filling.
My question is how much filling am I going to need for each layer in cups. Some of the filling will probably be raspberry jam and some will be a buttercream type filling.
I need this knowledge so I can tell her what to get.
Thanks.
Could you check the Wilton site out to see if they have a guide for how much filling you would need for each cake? I know they have a icing guide by cups and a cake cutting guide. Maybe they have a filling guide too?
I never know how much filling to put on a cake. Mine is either too thick or too thin in the middle.
Good luck!
I have the amounts for filling rounds, from a recipe book;
16" -- 9 1/2 C.
12" -- 5 1/4 C.
8" -- 2 1/4 C.
6" -- 1 C.
Mind you, this are if you have torted each layer. Say you bake your 6" pan twice and torte. For the 6" you're going to fill three times, so you divide the total filling for the cake (1 C) into three, and each layer gets 1/3 C. I find these amounts to be pretty generous too.
I hope that's not confusing, I had a difficult time explaining that to a sister. I would guess you'd use a little more for the heart shaped 12" than the round 12"? Good luck. At least this will give you something to gauge off of . . .
