I am doing a wedding cake sampling tomorrow. I don't usually use Buttercream frosting for my cakes. Ususally I use BEttercream. But I know alot of wedding cakes are done in buttercream. Should I make a sample with both types of frosting and see what they like?

TIA!

I personally dislike Bettercreme - I found it soooo sweet but love the taste of buttercream. I would do both and I think you will find they pick the buttercream. You can flavor buttercream with so many different extracts and depending on the flavor of the cake it would compliment it better. Only my taste and suggestion but I would offer both. thumbs_up.gif

I agree with kcepenney. I am one of those people who do not care for Bettercreme, and my mother-in-law loves it and does not care for buttercream! At a recent birthday party that she attended (I made the cake and iced it in Bettercreme), people either really liked it, or really wished I had used my buttercream recipe. Seems like most people have a preference. I know that if I had gone to a tasting and was only offered Bettercreme as an option, I would look elsewhere. Please do not take this as a knock-down, I have learned this from experience (not offering Bettercreme as an option)!

Not sure what BEttercream is either but I would do both and let the bride to be decide what she likes best.

I think most upscale bakeries use IMB which is what I've been using latley and everyone seems to love it (except me, I'm not a butter fan and it's very buttery tasting to me).

Alip, I wasn't sure what BEttercreme was either, so I googles it.... came up with the fact that it is a nondairy cake filling/icing. Still wasn't thrilled with the answer, but I had to go make my kids' lunches for school and opened the freezer and wouldn't you know..... there was a quart of chocolate BEttercreme staring at me. So to answer the question, it's like whipped cream but it is a non dairy whipping cream. I bought mine at Smart and Final in the freezer section. HTH.

The bEttercream I use EVERYONE LOVES! I had to use bUttercream for all of my classes and it was not a hit! I LOVE bEttercream. It is lighter and more fluffy because it is whipped. It has a GREAT flavor. I would NEVER use bUttercream if I didn't have to. I don't like that it gets hard when it dries.

But I will do both and let her decide. Thanks for the advice!
