I don't know if there is a trick that I wasn't taught but I need some help. I am having a problem with air in my decorating bags, any tips on how to get rid of them. It always seems to skip or spit on me at the worst times. I would appreciate any help. (I use disposable bags) Thanks ![]()
Hi! Glad to have you hear. My Wilton instructor always put her icing in her decorator's bag by scraping the spatula against one side of the inside of the bag and then squeezing it down like cindy says. Hope this helps. It's hard to describe. Sorry.
one tip i have found that works for me is when filling the bag place the empty bag in a glass (pringles can / crystal light container) and bringing the bag over the sides so that I can push down the icing as I fill .. then also squeezing the icing down when finished .. with just a spatula I just was not getting the icing packed in ..

Hey - LIGHTBULB MOMENT!!!! I love this idea!!!
I've been doing this for years and this is a fantastic tip!!!!
Thanks Nancy!!!
I was tught to "burp" my bag as well by simply sqeezing the bag until all air pockets have disappeared.
If I have to spoon my icing I first work the air pockets out of my bag before I start to decorate. I really don't know how to explain this without a picture but I will try.
Bag is partially full (I only fill about 1/2 full) Put between hands and kinda squish the icing together working the air pockets out. Only use the fingers, not the palms.
I also try to scrape my spatula on one side so all the air is on one side and when I push the icing down it is pushing the air on the opposit side of the bag up and out.
Hope I didn't confuse and it made some sort of sense.
