Help! Need A Good Script Font And Can't Find One
Decorating By projectqueen Updated 7 Jun 2007 , 3:01am by Sweetcakes23
I need to write on the sides of a cake. I want to try writing with the candy melts since I think I will do an awful job writing sideways with icing.
I read that you can print out what you need on the computer and then trace on wax paper with candy melts. Then apply to the cake.
Well, my computer doesn't have a good script font for this. I need the letters to be connected and not a real fancy script.
I went to free fonts on the web and found one but I don't know how to get it to work with a Word document, it's just giving me a zip file. I don't know what to do with that and I need help!
Thanks.
CLOSE Word
then use winzip to extract the file to a folder in MY DOCUMENTS (unless it is a self extracting file -- to tell double click on the zip file icon)
then go to the CONTROL PANEL
and choose FONTS
when that opens (can take awhile if lots of fonts on your computer)
select FILE
and the click on: install new fonts
then it gets tricky.
at bottom is window on left -- double click on C:
then find Documents and Settings and double click on it.
scroll down until find your user name and double click
scroll until see My Documents and double click
scroll until find folder w/ font in it and double click
any fonts in folder will on appear in the list at top.
click SELECT ALL
and then click OK
they will now be installed.
reopen word and away you go!
Projectqueen, you will need to "unzip" that file (try double clicking on the zipped file to open it) and install the new font in your computer. I use WindowsXP on my computer and this is what it says on how to install a new font:
To add a new font to your computer
Open Fonts in Control Panel.
On the File menu, click Install New Font.
In Drives, click the drive you want.
In Folders, double-click the folder that contains the fonts you want to add.
In List of fonts, click the font you want to add, and then click OK.
To add all of the listed fonts, click Select All, and then click OK.
Hope that helps!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!
I will give it a try!
I was watching this thread, and gave this a try because I too was needing some good fonts. But, I got all the way into it until it had me double click on any fonts in folder will appear in the list at top. Well, nothing was there to appear. it just said no fonts available.
Whats do you think is up with mine?

1) were the fonts properly unzipped? ---won't work it they weren't
2) were there fonts in the folder??
3) sure you DOUBLE clicked on the target folder?
I'm not sure, if they were properly unzipped. Not sure If I know how to do that? ![]()
And, it said no fonts available in the folder up above (in that window) so I'm not sure if I had any more....than what I have been working with. I had just hoped there were more than the limited amount I had been working with.
you have to download fonts from various web sites and store them in a folder.
most will be in zipped format (a way of compressing files to take less space -- sort of the computer version of those space bags for storing blankets and such)
if have winXP, most likely can just double click on it and it will unzip. there are also lots of utilities all over the internet to do it to.
once unzipped -- put all the fonts in one folder (called say -- new fonts) and then follow directions above.
Thank you! It worked!!!
Sweetcakes, try going here for free fonts:
