Ok, I am trying to make a lemon cake for my daughter. Most recipes call for either a whipped cream based icing, a cream cheese based icing, or even a mascarpone based icing. DOes anyone have any experience decorating with these? I want to pipe stars and a border, etc and have it hold up during the party and the night before at room temp or in the fridge. Am I just smoking crack to think I can do this with some other types of icing? Thanks? If I am, what kind of buttercream would go good with a lemon cakle with lemon curd filling? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

Lemon or raspberry buttercream would taste fine.

Most cream cheese (incl. mascarpone) icings are ok for basic borders and writing but any other deco I would do in buttercream.

My cake decorating store has raspberry flavoring in a bottle or do you have access to any Lorann oils? I'm sure they have a raspberry - but you only need a few drops for a whole batch of buttercream.
