I want to make a loop bow for on top of my daughter's cake. I was going to do it out of candy clay, made all of the loops, had them hanging over a large dowel to dry. After 24 hours they started falling off of the dowel! They stretched and just broke.
Want to try fondant now since the candy clay didn't work. The party is on the 5th of August. Will that give the fondant enough time to dry properly so the bow doesn't deflate?
Thanks,
Hope

from what i've read, that should be more than enough time. the key is to keep it away from humidity. also, if you add a little gumpaste to it or a little fixodent (yes, the denture stuff) everyone swears it helps with drying and doesnt hurt the taste at all icon_smile.gif

Yes, if you make the bow at least a week before you need it, it should be nice and dry when you want to assemble--if it isn't terribly humid in your home.

It will dry more quickly if you add some gum paste or some gum tex to it. I've also heard that in place of those, you can add some Fixodent powder to the fondant to decrease drying time: 1 tsp. to 1 cup (ball the size of a hardball). All of these methods are foodsafe.

Thanks so much guys! now that you mention it I remember reading about the fixodent tip. Might go out and get some just in case. Would rather it dry too soon than not at all icon_smile.gif
